Announcement of a national mission targeting 100 GWe nuclear energy by 2047 is perceived as a major policy initiative of GOI.

Opening of nuclear sector for private players together with emphasis on advanced nuclear energy technologies, involving fast breeder reactors, small modular reactors, high temperature gas cooled reactors and molten salt breeder reactors, reflects India’s commitment to long-term energy security and sustainability, driven by utilization of vast thorium resources.

Notification of SHANTI act is a welcome step which facilitates the participation of the private sector in the national nuclear mission. In this context, the INS Annual Conference 2026 is envisioned as a premier global platform to deliberate on these critical intersections and to co-create actionable pathways for national and global impact.
